Following the release of a bout of mixed data in the Eurozone the single currency was little moved against the Pound but remained close to a six-week high against the US Dollar.
Early in Tuesday’s session, data published in France showed that industrial production in the struggling nation fell by 0.3% in October, a figure that fell below economist expectations for growth of 0.15%. Over the three months through to October, industrial production was 0.6% below the previous quarter.
Later in the session Italy published its own data reports. These showed some positive results such as Industrial production ticking higher from 0.2% to 0.5% in October on a month-by-month basis. GDP data for the country also showed signs of improvement. Instead of the expected decline of -0.2% GDP stagnated at 0%.
Data out of Greece however disappointed as the embattled nation saw its balance of trade fall from €-1.63 billion to €-1.96 billion. Industrial production also fell again to -5.2%.
Against the US Dollar the Euro is trading near to a six-week high and is at a five-year high against the Japanese Yen.
The Pound was unable to make gains despite the release of data showing that UK industrial output increased for a second consecutive month in October and as a separate report showed that the nation’s trade gap narrowed to its smallest margin in six months.
The Euro could see some movement if ECB Mario Draghi mentions future policy plans in a speech he is due to hold in Rome.
